About Mr Mathias Nagy
Consultant Knee Orthopaedic Surgeon in York District Hospital
After completing my MD at the Medical University Graz in Austria in 2006, I expanded my medical expertise by gaining international experience in Switzerland and South Africa. In pursuit of comprehensive orthopaedic training, I relocated to the UK and undertook specialized rotations on the Mersey Rotation.
My focus within orthopaedics has centered on the knee, leading me to pursue further specialization in this area. This involved securing two competitive fellowships at the renowned Wrightington Hospital in the UK, where I honed my skills in Sports Knee Surgery and Lower Limb Arthroplasty. Wrightington Hospital is widely recognized as a world-class specialist center and has been consistently ranked among the best orthopaedic hospitals globally.
To supplement my practical training, I diligently pursued various national qualifications through rigorous exams. These include becoming a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS), a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (FRCS Tr & Orth), and obtaining the CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.
In my continuous pursuit of knowledge, I recently acquired a Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. This expanded my expertise in treating and rehabilitating sports injuries specifically related to the knee.
To further enhance my professional standing, I achieved international orthopaedic diplomas from SICOT in Montreal, Canada (Diploma examination of the Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie) and FEBOT in Lisbon, Portugal (Fellow of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology).
Furthermore, I successfully completed an MSc in Musculoskeletal Science with Distinction at the esteemed University College London and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore. RNOH, recognized as one of the top-rated specialist orthopaedic hospitals worldwide, provided me with an exceptional academic environment. My dissertation, focusing on the outcomes of total knee replacement surgery, garnered international attention and resulted in multiple presentations. This achievement also led to my inclusion in the Dean's List, which recognizes scholars of excellence in their respective fields.
As a testament to my dedication to research, I have been awarded multiple prizes and have published numerous papers. I have also delivered over 50 presentations at national and international conferences across five continents. Notably, my research was nominated for the best paper prize in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the best poster prize in Dubai, UAE.
Additionally, I have actively pursued continuous professional development by attending more than 100 courses and 25 conferences worldwide. This commitment allows me to contribute to meaningful research and provide evidence-based treatments.
Education plays a vital role in my career, and I am deeply passionate about sharing knowledge. I hold multiple qualifications in education, including a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers, and I am a qualified ATLS Instructor. Teaching various orthopaedic topics on both national and international platforms is a true pleasure for me, as I strive to attract, develop, and retain exceptional individuals.
Currently, I hold the position of President-Elect of FORTE, a prominent international educational organization representing European orthopaedic surgeons in training. As a member of the executive committee, I actively contribute to organizing scholarly meetings and coordinating traveling fellowships across Europe.
